Consumer Rights
CCJ is the
consumers' watchdog. We
continuously monitor issues
affecting consumers from bad
telephone service to medical
mistakes resulting in malpractice.
CCJ has been in the forefront of
fighting attempts to limit
consumers' access to the civil
justice system.
CCJ
will continue to fight to reduce
medical errors by advocating for
doctor disclosure, an improved
peer review system, and an end to
mandatory overtime for doctors and
nurses. When the Pennsylvania legislature passed HB1802 in 2002,
and it was
signed by then Governor Schweiker, the
people of Pennsylvania won a very
important first step toward
improving patient safety.
Although the so-called tort
reform that passed as part of
HB1802 will have a negative effect
on victims of medical mistakes, it
could have been much worse had CCJ
not been actively educating and
lobbying the legislators.
